Product Review: Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Silk Poreless White Cake Powder

My favorite products from Maybelline are their powders because they always have good coverage, stay on for long hours (not that long though), affordable and you have easy access since Maybelline is locally available. I've loved their Clear Smooth Shine-Free Face Powder and their Clear Smooth Extra Shine-Free Powder Foundation which has better coverage since it's already a foundation. BUT my favorite Maybelline powder would have to be their Clear Smooth All-in-One Shine-Free Cake Powder because it comes with a sponge (which I love), good coverage, controls oiliness of my skin and it's available in refills which only costs P149.75, roughly P150.00!

It's been quite a while since I last used a powder from Maybelline because I decided to try powders from other brands. But last March when I saw this new powder from Maybelline, I did not even think twice, I quickly bought one for myself because I was really intrigued with the product and it is just beautifully packaged which, I think, would really attract most girls!

Product Name: MAYBELLINE BB SILK CAKE POWDER
Shade: Nude Beige
Price: P329.00
Bought from: SM North Edsa Beauty Section

Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Silk Cake Powder comes in a reflective, purple compact which I absolutely adore! I think what separates this the most from the old Maybelline powders is its packaging. It's much more attractive and the sponge that comes with it has a separate compartment which is more hygienic than the older ones. Another plus factor regarding its packaging is that it comes with a wider mirror which can actually fit my whole face when I look at it. Hahaha!

Upon opening the compact, you'll find the mirror and the powder itself.

When you flip up the powder, you'll find the sponge compartment, pretty much like the other compact powder foundations. The sponge is very useful, I love it!

You'll find holes at the bottom of the compact which allows the air to circulate.

You've probably read above that this powder is more expensive than their older compact powders. Maybe it's because they took the packaging up a notch but is it just because of the packaging? Or is it because it has better quality?

Actually, other than the cutesy packaging, what made me buy this is its purpose. It claims to give you a poreless and brighter skin and controls oiliness for hours.

Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Silk Cake Powder contains Korean Mulberry Root Extract which is known in lightening and brightening up the skin while inhibiting melanin production. The powder is infused with BB Silk Essence which makes the skin smoother. It is noncomedogenic and it also has SPF 21 PA+++ which protects your skin from the harmful UV rays. Other than that, Maybelline claims that this powder won't settle or highlight your pores --- that's why it's called poreless white. It claims that it will instantly give you a poreless-looking, brighter and more radiant skin.

The shade that I picked is Nude Beige. I was actually choosing between Nude Beige and Honey but I thought the former is the perfect shade for me so I chose it. It turns out that it's actually lighter than my skin color. I should've just stuck with the shade Honey since that has been my shade from their older powders. Looking at the powders, I thought that the shade Honey from this BB Silk powder line is a little darker than my skin color. Anyway, it's still okay! Like the older Maybelline powders, this new one is also available in 4 shades only. I wish they would expand their range of shades.

The Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Silk Powder has a silky texture which I love. It has a smooth coverage and doesn't accentuate my pores and the fine lines under my eyes. Awesome! So yeah, it's true that it makes your pores less visible. However, after a few hours, the coverage is not as smooth anymore as when you freshly applied it on your face. It keeps the oiliness at bay for a few hours but not really for 12 hours. Hmmm, I can say that its staying power is comparable to the Clear Smooth All-in-One Cake Powder. Don't get me wrong, it has a great oil and shine control but no, it doesn't last for 12 hours. I have oily-combination skin and after about 4 hours, my t-zone area would get shiny already, not super oily though.

Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Silk Powder is a two-way powder so you can apply it wet or dry.

PRODUCT TEST!

Picture No. 1: BARE FACE

Picture No. 2: With light coverage of foundation set with Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Silk Cake Powder. From afar, it's like I don't have pores at all! LOL! It lessened the visibility of the fine lines under my eyes. However. when you look closely, of course you will already see my pores.

Picture No. 3: With full makeup on. Love how it made my skin look poreless and flawless!

Picture No. 4: Zoomed in. Smooth coverage but like what I've mentioned in picture no. 2, you can still see my pores when you take a closer look.

Overall, I absolutely love this powder! Though I think I have to settle for the shade Honey next time so that it will match my skin color perfectly. It's true that it will lessen the appearance of your pores but I'd have to disagree with its claim that it stays on for 12 hours. Will I recommend it? YES! Even though it doesn't last up to 12 hours, it has an impressive oil and shine control, noncomedogenic, has SPF and gives a smooth and poreless coverage.

Repurchase? ABSOLUTELY! :) It's now my new favorite Maybelline powder and one of my favorite compact powders of all time!

Stay awesome and accomplish your mission! :)

    1. Hi dear!
Sige I'll try to do that one. The only highlighter that I use kasi is my glitter eyeshadow from Fashion 21 which is my product of the month of May. You can find it at the top part of this blog. It's an eyeshadow but I use it to highlight my face and it's really gorgeous! :) Thanks for the request. :)

  4. Both are great for oily skin, both have good coverage, smooth and flawless but I find the Fashion 21 Two Way Cake with Milk Moisturizers silkier so I'd have to say Fashion 21. :)

  5. I bought this too because I'm a Maybelline girl, and I needed powder because I ran out. I think that Korean Mulberry thing actually works because I had nasty scars from pimples I had amontgh ago. Believe it or not, it does at it says: itactually makes my pores "unseen". It's really healthy for the skin, I haven't broken out using it. But it goes on a bit heavy, and I sweat a lot so I tend to get a cakey look after I apply it. Maybe a brush would do the job. What do you think?

  6. Unfortunately, this one doesn't work on me. I decided to look for a new powder because I already experiencing breakouts with my old pressed powder that I'd been using for the longest time, then I started searching for a new one. When I saw this in one of my favorite drugstores, I was impressed because for its promised of pore less white skin and also it's non-comedogenic (since I'm prone to breakouts!). But first I was hesitant, thinking that it might not work on me so I searched for reviews and recommendation about this product. I found good comments and reviews especially on its breakouts issue so I decided to grabbed one. I was so excited to used it. But when I already applied it, I was SO DISAPPOINTED on the effect. Bad coverage, I still see my pores to think that my pores are not that so visible. Then I guess after around 10 minutes my nose is already oily and the WORST problem exist after 2 hours of application. I saw bumps around my cheeks and a lot in my forehead (there are no bumps there before I applied the powder). I felt really really bad. After that I didn't use it again. I realized that not all skin types are the same even for those who are breakout-prone people, maybe it will work to someone and some may don't.

  7. I bought this one but it doesn't really do too well for me. It's always coming off easily. Do I need to apply primer before or foundation along with this product? I use it everyday before going to school but after an hour it's almost gone! :( So I end up having this oily face. Any advice?
