PRODUCT REVIEW: Maybelline 2-in-1 Impact Shadow Liner by EYESTUDIO

In my previous blog entry, I reviewed the Maybelline Crayon Liner. This time, I'm going to review another eye pencil from Maybelline which is the 2-in-1 Impact Shadow Liner by EYESTUDIO.

Product Name: MAYBELLINE 2-IN-1 IMPACT SHADOW LINER by EYESTUDIO
Price: PhP 359.00
Spotted: SM North Edsa, Watsons

Last February 3 (2-5), SM North Edsa was having The Great Northern. I, of course, quickly checked out different cosmetic brands, including Maybelline New York and selected Maybelline products had 20% discount. Then I saw this 2-in-1 Impact Shadow Liner and I thought it was interesting and intriguing because, well, it's a 2-in-1 eye pencil.

Maybelline 2-in-1 Impact Shadow Liner is an eyeshadow and an eyeliner in 1. Unlike the Maybelline Crayon Liner, this eye pencil impressed me. And because I don't want to regret buying this pencil (like the way I did in purchasing the Crayon Liner), I swatched and tested the eye pencil first. I swatched 3 shades on the back of my hand and then I continued to look around and visit other cosmetic counters before I checked back on the liners that I swatched. I waited for about 15 minutes to rub the pencils on my hands and I was impressed because it didn't smudge and no matter how hard I rubbed the swatches, the colors were still pretty pigmented. Because I was impressed and because Maybelline was on sale that day, I purchased two 2-in-1 Impact Shadow Liners. If Maybelline was not on sale that day, I would purchase only 1 pencil. =D

So, I bought the brown one and the white one. I got the pencils for only PhP 288.00 each because it was on sale nga.

Here's a closer look of my Maybelline 2-in-1 Impact Shadow Liners:

A closer look at the tips of the pencils. You can tell which pencil I use the most. ;-)

Here's a photo right after swatching the pencils:

Here's a photo 15 minutes after swatching. As you can see, the colors are still pigmented although it did smudge a little bit. So, I waited for another few minutes to see if the colors will dry completely or if they would still smudge.

Here is a photo of my fingers that I used to rub the pencils. As you can see, my fingers were stained but only a bit of the product/s transferred on my fingers.

Finally, here's a photo after 20 minutes of swatching and after rubbing a few times using a heavy hand. The colors are still pigmented and it smudged just a little bit and that's because of rubbing in a forceful manner.

I was impressed with the result of the swatch and rub test that I did on these eye pencils. However, I wasn't sure yet at the time if the pencils would be as great when it's actually used on the eyes. So, I tried to use the pencil when my boyfriend and I went out the next day.

FYI, I used mostly Maybelline products on this look.

Quick FOTD: Maybelline BB Cream in 02 Natural, Maybelline Shine-Free Cake Powder in Honey, Maybelline 2-in-1 Impact Shadow Liner by Eyestudio in white and brown, Maybelline Crayon Liner in black, Maybelline Extreme Stiletto mascara, Maybelline ExpertWear blush in Romantic Plum, Maybelline Water Shine lipstick in B24, and Etude House Drawing Eyebrow Pencil for my eyebrows.

I used the 2-in-1 Impact Shadow Liner in brown as my eyeshadow for this look and the white one as a highlighter for the inner corners of my eyes. I don't know if I applied the pencils in a wrong way but they appeared cakey on my eyes. It's not that noticeable in pictures but it doesn't look so great in person. The brown pencil creased on my lids even though I primed my eyes with my ELF eyelid primer.

I guess I applied it in a wrong way because the thing about these pencils, they dry very quickly so I guess you shouldn't put a generous amount on the first application. I guess you should gently build up the color but you might want to blend it quickly because it also dries quickly, I'm warning you. So, if you will not be alert, you might have a hard time working with it and blending it out.

I am going to figure out how to correctly use this pencils and then I will update you guys soon. I hope this review did help you (somehow). Please stay tuned for my update and for my next posts. Also, stay tuned for my next videos in my YouTube channel and please don't forget to subscribe. :)

Stay awesome my dear dudettes! :)

  3. I haven't tried NYX's slide-on pencils, the waterproof ones so I can't really tell. But if I'm going to compare these pencils to the NYX Slim eye pencils, then the NYX SLP's are no match sa Maybelline 2-in-1 liners :)
